a sad day for architecture

Vancouver Special would like to acknowledge the passing of Arthur Erickson, who was undeniably the greatest Canadian architect. Below is a eulogy I wrote for him upon hearing the news this morning:

Dearest Arthur,

You were a great architect and will be deeply missed. Thank you for the Law Courts, Macmillan Bloedel, and the Museum of Anthropology. I also love the exterior stairs at Waterfall building, but the Museum of Glass in Tacoma – not so much (sorry). Remember that time I saw you in the lineup at the Safeway and how friendly you were? I will always remember that.

Love, VS
