Vancouver Special stocks a fabulous line of Danish furniture called HAY. The company’s ambition is to encourage Danish furniture design’s to return to the innovative greatness of the 1950’s and 60’s, but in a contemporary context.
One of the great HAY designs is the HEE series of chairs designed by Hee Welling in 2004. These steel chairs are equally suitable to the indoors and they are the outdoors, and are completely rust-safe in the rain!
“The starting point for the “Hee” chair was to make a cool and basic chair that would not impose on you. A chair that can be used indoors as well as outdoors. When I buy a kitchen spoon it doesn’t have to tell me why and how? The same philosophy is behind the “Hee” chair. And therein lies great quality. Hee understands the paradox of simplicity: that it is in the details, the finishing touches, and in the meeting between the two that designing demands extreme precision. The ultimate in simplicity makes great demands on details and finish, and Hee is so very good at that. In that manner Hee has already made a place for himself in the modern and function-oriented Scandinavian furniture tradition.”
